Italy's prime minister, Giorgia Melon, paid an official visit to Serbia, where she met with President Aleksandar Vucic.

During a joint press conference, Melon has declared that Europe is not united, as long as the Western Balkans are outside it.

I think Europe is not a club in which someone decides who is European and who is not European, it is history and geography that has decided who is European.

Europe cannot be said to be really united until the Western Balkans have entered the European family understood as an institution”, Melon said.

Melon also stressed that what European institutions must do is a serious process, as soon as possible, to ensure this reunification, especially in the very complex international context.

The Italian prime minister has stressed that the European integration of the Western Balkans is a path that must be followed by Italy and other states, because it is essential to guarantee this region, hence all of Europe, greater security and more economic growth.
