The European Union's special envoy for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, Miroslav Lajcak, has said he expects elections in the north to be announced without further delay.
It for Serbian media, Politika, has said it is important that the establishment of initiative groups for signing the petition has started.
Lajcak added that refounding local powers in northern Kosovo is necessary for the despassing of the situation.
“We expect the new local elections in northern Kosovo to be announced without further delays, and it is important that the process towards holding new mayoral elections in four municipalities finally began with the founding of Kosovo Serb initiative groups in early December. Refounding local governments fully representatively in northern Kosovo is necessary for despassing the situation on the ground and for the broader normalisation process, as well as is necessary for the continued creation of the association/counciency. I regret that the census of initiative groups was initially faced with unexpected administrative obstacles, but since then I have received assurances from Kosovo that these problems will be resolved soon so that the signing of the mayor's dismissal will start immediately”, he said.
