Lajcak: EU ready for first-time expansion after a long time

The European Union's special envoy for Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, has said that for the first time, the EU is ready for enlargement.

At the summit for the Balkans, I stressed that for the first time after a while the EU is ready for enlargement. It's time to take advantage of this option”, Lajcak wrote on the X platform.

Lajcak participated in the EU-Western Balkans summit organised by the Brussels political institute “Funds of Europe” on Thursday.

The EU emissary said that <x0politicality has opened the door for EU integration, but it will not automatically pass through you through this door, because for such a thing conditions must be met”.

“For the first time I see the EU as more ready for the Balkans than the Balkans for the EU”, Lajcak said, repeating that the countries of the region should resolve all open issues between them so that one day they cannot block each other on the road to the EU.

The debate is under way in Brussels dedicated to the process of enlargement organised by the “MEDS of Europe”.
