Since the start of talks on normalising Kosovo relations, Serbia in 2011, the West has stressed that this is a condition for European integration.
An American State Department spokesman told Voice of America that the United States continues to strongly support EU-launched talks as the only way to achieve a peaceful relationship between Kosovo and Serbia.
“For this reason, we repeat our calls for the governments of Kosovo and Serbia to make concrete progress in the commitments that have been made under the normalisation agreement, and we expect the two countries to fully implement all their obligations under the Constitutional and annexes of its implementation”, said in response to the UN spokesman in which the United States' commitment to support Serbia, Kosovo and all Western Balkan countries to fulfil their aspirations for European integration and membership in Euro-Atlantic institutions.
During yesterday's day, EU special envoy for dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia Miroslav Lajcak said in Brussels there is progress in implementing some agreements reached in dialogue between the two sides.
He said this during the debate on enlargement conducted by the organisation “Europe's deputy “.
Lajcak stressed that the European future of the Western Balkan region cannot even be seen without the normalisation of reports between Kosovo and Serbia.
“Norming reports between Kosovo and Serbia is a matter of strategic importance. Without this normalisation, we cannot even dream of European future. We have recent progress in this regard. Soon we will close the energy file, there is progress on the license issue, on the issue of missing persons, on the issue of local elections in the north, and on implementing the agreement on the road to normalisation of the reports”, Lajcak said, adding that he is in constant contact with the parties to continue with implementation.
