NATO's peacekeeping force in Kosovo (KFOR) is continuing patrols on the border between Kosovo and Serbia to ensure security.
Turkish state news agency “Anadolu” accompanied the patrol of Italian soldiers along the border area near Zvecan and Zubin Potok municipalities, where most Serbs live in northern Kosovo.
KFOR soldiers were also seen on boat patrol at Weyman Lake in the border region.
Guglielmino Esercito, the commander-in-chief of the Italian unit, told “Anadolu” that the units perform patrols to ensure a safe environment and freedom of movement for all in Kosovo.
“We are well equipped and well trained, so our flexibility can enable us to face all kinds of challenges in the operating field, so KFOR is willing to face all kinds of challenges”, Esercito said.
KFOR has stepped up its presence and patrol activities in Kosovo following the escalation of the terrorist attack that took place in Zvecan Banjsk on 24 September, where police officer Africa Bunnjak was killed.
After the attack, a large number of security forces were sent to the site and the Brnjak border crossing between Kosovo and Serbia was closed.
Among the 27 NATO member states and partners, Turkey has the second largest contingent in KFOR, contributing 780 out of its approximately 4,500 soldiers. /Klankosova. tv
