Out of about 240 hostages taken in Gaza during the October 7th Hamas attacks, about 120 are believed to still be in captivity.
During a six-day ceasefire in late November, 105 hostages were released in exchange for Palestinians held in Israeli prisons.
The remaining hostage families are urging the Israeli government to reach a new ceasefire so that at least some of the captives can be released, reports the BBC.
Negotiations are resumed today in Cairo after initial talks Wednesday bore no fruit. Hamas' leader reportedly told Egyptian mediators that no Israelite hostage will be released until there is a permanent ceasefire.
Israel has repeatedly refused a permanent ceasefire, insisting it will not stop the war until Hamas breaks down.
