We should not forget the Western Balkans, Slovenia's Foreign and European Affairs Minister Tanja Fajon said at the European Union's meeting of foreign ministers.
“Slovenia supports the start of EU membership negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova and granting candidate status to Georgia, but we should not forget the Western Balkans”, Fajon said.
She had earlier declared that this year is extremely important for enlargement and that she expects encouraging reports at the December EU summit, writes Serbian-language Radio Free Europe.
“At the end of the year, I expect encouraging reports, I want to see the start of membership negotiations with Bosnia and Herzegovina, we expect membership negotiations with Ukraine, Moldova, further with Georgia, and in this context it is essential that North Macedonia and Albania open and concrete negotiations begin with a new intergovernmental conference”, the chief of Slovenian diplomacy had said.
In early November, it was announced that the European Commission recommends opening accession negotiations between Bosnia and the EU when the necessary level of compliance with the criteria for membership is reached.
The commission will report to the EU Council by March 2024 for any progress, the official document says.
