Early elections in Kosovo are warning political analysts due to the Association of Serb-run municipalities. According to them, establishing or rejecting association is a heavy burden for the prime minister, Albin Kurti, so early elections may be expected in the country early in 2024.
Political analyst Artan Muhhaxhiri tells Kosovo Press that the association is expected to become a trigger for new elections in Kosovo next year.
According to him, Prime Minister Albin Kurti is in an extremely uncomfortable position for any action he takes for Association.
He emphasises that non-founding the Association has only the isolation of Kosovo, so under new circumstances there must be a political re-legigration in the country.
The “Association has become an inexorable element and any waste of time in its practical realisation goes to the expense of the government and the state of Kosovo. That means isolation, the alternative to non-resulting the association is isolation and the continuation of the punishment measures currently under way.
Prime Minister Kurti is in a poor position because while he was the opposition's chief opponent has been the biggest opponent of association, while now as prime minister has been aware that there is no other possibility to block the process, but may neglect and waste time. This idea goes to his own harm too, because how he admits how he does not accept it will have consequences.
If you accept it, there will be consequences in terms of political morality, while if you do not accept it there will be isolation and a kind of rejection of co-operation and the blocking of the European road for Kosovo ... If you do not accept realisation in the practice of association, they are absolutely expected even new elections because it would take a new kind of configuration, taking into account the new” circumstances, Mujairi points out.
On the other hand, even the connoisseur of political circumstances, Dritero Arifi, sees possible new elections in Kosovo.
He says of Kosova Prees, that Kurti has delegated itself with acceptance of association and with its practical establishment should head for the sovereign for new legitimacy.
I think new elections will be held because the government has a problem, as a way of letting itself be managed with acceptance of association. This is not a bad thing, but now it has to seek a vote for re-legigration and not just the government, but we have to have a social consensus, as even opposition parties have some responsibility, not just the government. This is a social and national problem that should not be left solely to the government. The government has the responsibility is true, but it has to find mechanisms to unify the Albanian and social factor on how to go away”, he says.
Kurti has recently offered the opportunity for next year to write a modern European draft of the Association Act of Major Serb municipalities.
Responding to the European Union's special envoy (BE) for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, who earlier this week stated that the draft association status is the internal issue of Kosovo, Kurti has said he could write a draft status in co-operation with ministers Nenad Raspic and Elbert Krasniqi.
Kurti in October of this year has accepted the plan by Euro-Americans for implementing the Kosovo-Serbia basic agreement, as well as the draft association status, but has called for their signature as guarantees for implementation.
Kurti's government was elected to the Assembly in March 2021, until its mandate until March 2025. / KP/
