Special Unit protests again on December 9th, more units and departments are expected to join.

In a document that Periscopi has seen, the Special Unit will protest again on November 15th, 2023, before the Kosovo Government's facility. The particular part of this document that has reached our editorial, is that other sectors within the Kosovo Police are invited to protest... A meeting of more than [...]

A meeting of more than three hours held between Prime Minister Albin Kurti and representatives of the Special Intervention Unit on November 15, 2023, seems to have brought no results.

Periscope has seen a warning document for a protestor on December 9, 2023, at 12:00 at Skenderbeu Square in Pristina.

According to the document that has reached our editorialisation, protests this time call the Special Unit, that of investigations, Public Order and other Kosovo Police Departments.

During November, the most controversial protest was that of November 1st, where the protest of Special Intervention Unit policemen became a public opinion issue.

Prime Minister Albin Kurti, the same day, by a post that caused many reactions, had collected monthly incomes for endangered police officers in the country, and even calculated the weapons that each of them owned, saying 10,000 euros was the sum.

Each member of NIS has equipment worth about 10,000 euros. The average income of the vast majority of members of this elite unit this year totaled over 2,200 euros a month (base plus additions). They'll now have the additional risk of 150 euros a month, as this situation continues in the north of the country, which is the highest level of this surplus. At the end of November, it is said that in addition to the increased salary, each will receive the net amount of 1,350 euros retroactively (part of the February-November 2023 risk rate). Needs, not just desires, are increasingly simpler than solutions”, said Kurt's response.

We remember that the main requirement of the police is that the surplus for risklessness is 50 percent of their basic salary, not as Government has assigned to seven categories, with different monetary values.

The government's refusal to meet this (unwillful) need by the Kosovo police continues to be among the most controversial topics in the country.

This, especially after the attacks on September 24th in Banja of the Republic of Kosovo.

In northern Kosovo, the Serb-run area of majority has been high for months, as local populations oppose the decisions of Kosovo institutions.

Police members' work is adjusted to the Law on Police. The additions to the police are said to include compensation for dangerous work, overtime, holidays, and special work assignments.

However, no monetary value is given to the law than police are paid for overtime.

A member of the elite police unit AJSI unit known in public even as the FIT he talked to REL, has said that a member of this facility has been working the maximum 540 hours a month.

On average, members of this unit work 173 hours a month, he said. But when there are tensions in the north of Kosovo that are high since May, police work long hours, up to 500 hours.

According to this NJS member, they are paid 3.60 gross euros for an overtime hour, or 3.40 euros. /Periscope
