Albania's president, Bajram Begaj, has expressed condolences for the life-sharing of former Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic Karel Schwarzenberg.
Through a post on the social network “X” President Begaj has said Schwarzenberg is leaving a deep void in European politics and society. While noting that Albanians will remember him for contributing to Kosovo's recognition.
Karel Schwarzenberg's death “leaves a deep void in European politics and society. Albanians will always remember his contribution to recognising Kosovo. Warm condolences to the Czech people and President Petr Pavel”, writes Begaj.
Karel Schwarzenberg was one of Czech figures after communism. He passed away at the age of 85 on Sunday, November 12th.
Schwarzenberg was one of the main supporters of Kosovo's independence even before it was declared by official Pristina in February 2008, while he was foreign minister when Czechia recognised him in May 2008.
In January 2008, a month before Kosovo was declared independent, Schwarzenberg had said that “at an appropriate time Chechia would support the Kosovo declaration of independence”.
