As the foreign ministers of the Berlin Process countries gathered in Tirana, EU Enlargement Commissioner Oliver Varhely said Albania's membership in the European Union is happening.
He said that since January 1st of next year The EU is ready to host the new Western Balkan states.
“in December when we had the first EU summit that took place in one of the Western Balkan candidate countries, so here in Tirana, Prime Minister Rama came and talked about this idea and said that we in Tirana want to have the new campus of the College of Europe”.
So he noted that the agreement signed today is a very clear sign that Albania is becoming part of the European Union.
The College of Europe has become a symbol of enlargement. There is no better and clearer sign that Albania is becoming part of the European Union than bringing the European College to Tirana”.
He stressed that more such things will be heard during today.
This is the direction we're going to go, this is the growth plan we're going to make today to accelerate the expansion since January 1st of next year so that we can be ready to wait for the new EU states, because we are ready to host them, to wait for you”, Varhely said.
