U.S. takes battleships and fighter planes near Israel

The United States announced late Sunday that it would send a modern aircraft carrier, battleships and fighter planes east of the Mediterranean Sea and that it would provide Israel with additional equipment and ammunition.

This US decision comes after the attack by Hamas in southern Israel, which US President Joe Biden called the unpredict and terrible “ ”.

Israel says more than 700 people have been killed and another 100 have been kidnapped by Hamas.

In Gaza, more than 400 people have been killed after the revenge air bombing by Israel, according to Palestinian officials.

US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin said Sunday that the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford, a battleship and four rocket destroyers are headed for Israel. American fighter planes will also be sent.

The White House said it would send additional military aid to Israel in the coming days, saying the US is working to ensure that Israel's enemies cannot seek to exploit this situation.

Iran's president, Ebrahim Reis, has voiced his support for Hamas' attack, saying Israel must be held responsible for endangering the region.

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the US has not seen evidence of Iran's direct involvement, but said Iran has helped the Gaza-based group for many years.

“Hamas would not be Hamas without the support he has received over the years from Iran. We have not seen evidence that Iran is involved in this particular attack, but their support over the years is clear”, Blinken told US TV.

At the Security Council meeting, Iran denied involvement in the attack against Israel, according to Reuters.
