Syrian state media have reported that Israeli air strikes Thursday have hit international airports in the capital, Damascus, and the northern town of Alepos. As a result of the attacks, the tracks at these airports have been damaged, which have closed for service.
Syrian state media, SANA, quoted an unidentified military official, who said no one was hurt during the attacks.
The Israeli Army refused to comment on the incident.
If Israel proved to be behind these attacks, then they would be the first Israeli attacks since the Palestinian militant group Hamas carried out the deadly attacks in Israel on October 7th.
Air strikes come a day before the planned visit to Syria by Iranian Foreign Minister, who is expected to talk to Syrian officials about the situation in the region.
Israel has targeted airports and maritime ports in areas controlled by the Government in Syria, in an effort to prevent Iran's shipments of weapons to militant groups supported by Tehran, including Hezbollah in Lebanon.
Thousands of fighters backed by Iran across the region joined the 12-year conflict in Syria to assist Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's forces.
In recent years, Israel has carried out hundreds of air strikes aimed at areas controlled by the Syrian government, including attacks at airports in Damascus and Alepo, but rarely admits that it is behind such operations. / REL
