Switzerland has no immediate plans to deploy additional Swiss peacekeeping troops to the Swiss mission in Kosovo, despite increasing tensions in the region and news that NATO is strengthening its KFOR peacekeeping force after a deadly shootout.

No Swiss contingent growth is planned after recent events, said the Swiss Armed Forces International Command (SWISSINT) for Keystone news agency - ATS on Sunday. Security of soldiers is the highest priority and has priority over operational requirements. For now, there is no indication that security is not guaranteed, transmits albinfo.ch.

Members of Swisscoy, a Swiss Army unit, joined by the NATO-led international peacekeeping force in Kosovo (KFOR), are contributing in different ways to the multinational peace mission. They ensure the preservation of a safe and stable environment and freedom of movement of all citizens and KFOR. Soldiers are located in different countries. Banjska City is outside Switzerland's responsibility zone, according to SWI SSINT, broadcast albinfo.ch.

Last Sunday's attack by a 30-strong Serb commando force, heavily armed, against Kosovo police officers in the Banjska settlement in northern Kosovo, near the border with Serbia, has rekindled tensions in the region. Three Serbs and a Kosovo policeman were killed in the clashes.

Switzerland currently dislodges 195 troops in the Swiss mission in Kosovo, as part of the KFOR peacekeeping force. It's been active there since 1999.
