Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti said that if the September 24th attack remains unpunished, Serbia will repeat the crime”.
Kurti in an interview for the Montenegrin newspaper “Pobjeda” spoke of the first two weeks of attack in Zvecan Banjska, saying this act highlighted difficulties and “the need for greater international co-operation in the preservation, defence and control of the border with Serbia”, the newspaper Express follows.
It is clear that the terrorist attack on Banjska in Zvecan threatened our territorial integrity, state sovereignty and national security. Also, the terrorist attack highlighted difficulties, as well as the need for greater international co-operation in preserving, protecting and controlling the border with Serbia. So the need for open punishment and the one with clear and appropriate language as well as the international community's demand towards Serbia. I am repeating that evidence gathered during the investigation shows the direct involvement of Serbia's state institutions in this act of aggression against the Republic of Kosovo. For that, Serbia must be sanctioned and punished internationally. If even this act remains unpunished, Serbia will repeat the crime”, Kurti said.
He thanked all countries that condemned the attack as an act of aggression on Serbia. “We are also grateful for the support we have received”, Kurti said.
When some Western countries' criticism of Kosovo for dialogue was mentioned and asked whose help it is counting on, Kurti said Kosovo relies on the international community's support.
“The government of the Republic of Kosovo maintains regular contacts with the US and other EU member states, especially for the recent serious threat from Serbia. You saw that the US response to Serbia's aggression was direct and immediate. Recently I have asked US President Jake Sullivan's National Security Adviser, to boost support for Kosovo against Serbia's” war plans, Kurti said.
Kosovo always relies on the help of the international community, but we too are careful and responsible. So we doubled the annual budget for Kosovo protection and increased soldiers by 80 percent. We need a well-equipped army that will protect Kosovo successfully. Our goal is NATO membership is our well-being and contribution to the security of the region”, he added.
Kurti said he expects everything will necessarily end with Kosovo's victory.
“The fight against crime and terror sponsored by Serbia continues and will necessarily end with the victory of our independent country, its values and interests, its citizens, all communities, indiscriminately. We are careful, careful, but not frightened”, he said.
“States that have a superior complex, when contracting or weakened, become dangerous. In that sense, Serbia is like Russia”, Kurti said.
