Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti welcomed two US senators, Jeanne Shaheen and Peter Wilch into his office.
The prime minister's office announced that Kurti thanked the two senators for their visit, who were being accompanied by US Ambassador to Kosovo Jeffrey Havenier, and for the solidarity shown with our country and our people following the September 24th terrorist attack, as well as for the long and ongoing support of Kosovo.
“He underlined evidence collected so far that undeniably confirms the involvement of Serbia's state in Sunday's 24 September paramilitary attack, on the early morning of which the Kosovo Police Sergeant and Kosovo Hero, Africa Bunnjak, and evidence testifying was part of a larger plan aimed at annexing Kosovo's north<>, the report said.
In its statement to the media after the meeting, regarding the process of dialogue mediated by the European Union, Prime Minister Kurti said he cannot continue as if nothing had happened,
The next chapter of the dialogue for normalisation should take into account Serbia's aggressive action and its target exposed to annexing the northern part of Kosovo. For dialogue to be likely for any success, along with sanctions on Serbia, the prime minister added, it is extremely important that the approach is balanced, respected and implemented by the Basic Agreement and its annex, and that Serbia be backed by the public and actual rejection of parts of the Basic Agreement, which deal with the dephacto recognition of Kosovo and its territorial integrity”, it has been expressed.
Meanwhile, Senator Shaheen praised the rise in the number of KFOR troops as positive and as important in protecting Kosovo's borders.
“Senators thanked Prime Minister Kurti for the constructive conversation. As said in the press statement after the meeting, Senator Shaheen, they had plans to visit the region and when they heard of the attack on Bansika of Zvecan, they wanted to come to Kosovo to express their condolences to the family of the killed police. She said it is very important that those responsible for the attack be accountable to the law and that Serbia should co-operate in the investigations under way”.
The Shaheen Senate assessed the number of KFOR troops as positive and as important in protecting Kosovo's borders. Among other things, she said the model and support of the Government and Prime Minister Kurti for Human Rights and the rule of law is very important for all countries in the region and that the United States shares those same values”, it is said further in announcing the Office of the Prime Minister.
