Germany's ambassador to Serbia, Anke Konrad, has said on Wednesday that the events of September 24th in the village of Banjsk in northern Kosovo should be clarified and that the situation should calm down.
“The current situation is not sustainable for people in northern Kosovo, nor for people in Serbia and Kosovo in general”, Konrad told Blic newspaper on Wednesday.
She said it is important to create conditions for restoring dialogue on normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia as soon as possible for implementing the Brussels Agreement by 2013, including establishing the Association of Serb Major Communities, as well as implementing two agreements reached this year in Brussels and Ohrid.
Konrad also stressed the necessity of holding local elections in Kosovo's Serb majority municipalities and the return of Serb political representatives to Kosovo institutions.
Following the attack against the Kosovo Police on 24 September in Banjska, where a police officer and three attackers were killed by the European Union (BE) were sent signals that measures against Serbia are possible, if proven to be linked to this attack.
Serbia has dismissed Kosovo's accusations that it stands behind the attack, dubbed by Kosovo authorities as “the attempt to annex Kosovo's north”.
On October 2nd, EU spokesman Peter Stano said Brussels is awaiting full results of the investigation, to have a clear mirror of what happened and that, based on that, member states will make decisions, including any possible measures against Serbia.
The move towards Serbia on the same day called for the prime ministers of Croatia and Albania, Andrej Plenkovic and Edi Rama.
Similarly, Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq had declared that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken has mentioned such an opportunity in a telephone conversation. /rel
