The only plant in the Gaza Strip, which is under the siege of Israel, is closed on 11 October, as it is out of fuel, Palestinian authorities said.
“The only thermal power plant in the Gaza Strip halted operating at 2: 00 p.m. [in local time]”, Gaza power authority head Jalal Ismail said through a statement.
The power company operating the thermal power plant had warned several hours earlier that the thermal power plant was in danger of halting production.
This company said Gaza will have access to the energy produced through solar energy, but will only be enough for 10 hours of power per day.
The closure of the thermal power plant comes after Israel announced earlier this week the blocking of fuel shipments to the Gaza Strip as part of what the Israeli government called a full “siege of” of the territory led by the Palestinian militants group Hamas.
Hamas on October 7 began his greatest attack on Israel in years, attacking him from land, air, and sea. Israel countered by violent attacks and is continuing to bombard Gaza, where some 2 million people live.
Since the outbreak of violence, Israel has said that over 1,200 people have been killed, while more than 1,000 people have already been reported dead and thousands injured in Gaza. /rel
