On January 5th, US President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz announced that their states will send armoured vehicles to help Ukraine repel Russian attacks.
Germany said it would send about 40 armoured Marders-like vehicles to Ukraine.
For a long time, Ukraine has been demanding that heavy arms equipment, including tanks, allow for offensive. Western states have hesitated to offer such weapons, saying they fear such a thing would provoke Russia.
But Ukrainians have built momentum and Western governments have expanded the range of weapons they are offering for Ukraine.
Reports from the US and Germany come a day after France promised it would send Ukraine light AMX-10 RC-type tanks. These are cars that can carry heavier balls.
