Vuciq: European plan is new negotiating framework for Serbia

The Franco-German plan, which has become the European Union's plan for normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia, is the new negotiating framework for Serbia, Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq said. “There is no progress for us unless we co-operate on this issue”, he said at a media conference on the night of January 23rd. “There is no progress for us unless we co-operate on this issue”, he said at a media conference on the night of January 23rd.

Vuciq said foreign diplomats have told him that if he does not accept the Franco-German plan, Serbia will face European integration ban, preventing investments and sweeping measures in the political and economic sense.

You have to accept this plan, I was told”, Vuciq said.

He said that if Serbia refused to talk, it would also face the visa regime and added that Serbia should participate in dialogue and continue its European path.

Vuciq reiterated that it is against the frozen conflict with Kosovo and that peace with Albanians is needed.

“It is important to work on a compromise solution”, he said, and added that he does not believe it is possible to do so with Albin Kurti.

We never signed anything, we just faced facts. Nothing will happen today, not tomorrow, not after one or three months. When faced with final demands, Serbia's Assembly and the people will be declared”, Vuciq said.

Vuciq said the entire European context has changed following Russia's attack on Ukraine.

Serbia is on the radar of all because it did not impose sanctions on Russia”, he said.

He said this fact has become one of Serbia's biggest problems.

Earlier in the day, at the invitation of the prime minister, Ana Brnabiq, Vuciq attended the cabinet meeting of Serbia, which lasted about two hours and was closed to the public.

After the meeting, the Serbian president reportedly announced the ministers for Belgrade's official position on the Kosovo issue, as it said, with “sfides and the difficulties facing Serbia”.

According to the Serbian Government's announcement, at the meeting “they agreed that the president, the government and all executive authorities should work in a synchronized and unified way”.

On January 20th, Vuciq met with five diplomats of a European-American team, where he later said Belgrade is willing to work on implementing the European proposal for normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia.

After meeting with representatives of the European Union, the United States of America, France, Germany and Italy, Vuciq said there is “concern and reserve for an important matter”, but did not give any more details, since he said he cannot talk about it because the proposal is not public.
