Megan Hess, 46, was found guilty of fraud in July. It ran a funeral agency, “Sunset Mesa” in Montrose, Colorado.
Her 69-year-old mother, Shirley Koch, was also found guilty of fraud and sentenced to 15 years. Koch's central role was to fragment troops, the court's data shows.
The case attorney, Tim Neff, stated that the actions and behavior of Hess and Koch have caused great emotional pain for families and relatives.
This investigation began after several reports and investigations by Reuters media during 2016-2018 about the sale of body parts in the United States.
Former employees told Reuters that Hess and Koch were unauthorized troop fragmentation and a few weeks after a history of 2018 was published, FBI raided business.
In their file, prosecutors highlighted Hiss scheme “the macabre natural” and described it as one of the most important cases of sale of body parts in recent US history, Reuters writes.
