He said this plan has full US support, though it does not have the name on it.
We are referred to as the EU dialogue, but it is something that has our powerful support. I think we've seen this during this administration. Just last week, our deputy secretary, Gabe Escobar, with senior EU representatives Germany, France and Italy held a joint mission in Pristina and Belgrade to discuss normalising relations between Kosovo and Serbia”, Price said.
He stressed that leaders of the two countries -- Kosovo and Serbia -- “stressed the possibilities of the proposal, stressed the urgency of rapid progress to avoid the risk of further escalation”.
spokesman The UN said the US, together with EU partners, expects the parties to meet their responsibilities.
“Both Kosovo and Serbia in this case should implement the agreements they have signed through this process of dialogue, including the progress of establishing the Association of Serb Majorities and we strongly encourage Kosovo Serbs to return to Kosovo institutions as soon as possible to improve security and stability for all citizens”.
These, he said, are messages Kosovo and Serbia are hearing from the US, being heard by the EU as well, heard by EU member states, in this case by the delegation that visited Kosovo and Serbia days ago.
So, he said, “we are very supportive of this process”.
Price added that US access to conflicts and tensions around the world often consists of access to the Balkan region.
We support, in some cases, local solutions and in some other regional solutions. The US offers its support when and how we consider it to be most effective. And in this case, the EU dialogue, we believe it has the potential to be an effective tool for reducing tensions and resolving the conflict between Kosovo and Serbia and bringing higher levels of stability, prosperity and opportunity for both peoples”, pointer Ned Price, spokesman for The DEA.
