South Africa, sudden war protagonist in Ukraine

The West continues to seek means to end the war between Russia and Ukraine. The last move in this direction has been made by European Union for Foreign Policy and Security High Representative Josep Borrell. He has asked South Africa to take advantage of its <x0 BAR good relations” with Moscow [...]
This was requested Friday at a joint conference in Pretoria with South Africa's Minister of Relations and International Co-operation, Nadedi Pandor.
“We are aware of South Africa's non-annagement policy. For that very reason, the EU is not asking South Africa to take sides, we're just asking you to protect the United Nations Charter. Nothing more, nothing less”, Borrell said, who hopes that the South Africa “can use its good relations with Russia to persuade it to stop this fight”.
A gesture he described as a key “contributant” for world peace. In that sense, he has assured that this conflict “is not just a European war”. While it is true that “is happening on European soil, war affects the whole world”, he stressed.
In turn, South Africa's minister underlined that this mission proposed by Borrell is not the sole responsibility of South Africa. Later, the minister has clarified that with her statements she does not want to say “that other countries are not working enough”, but she has insisted that the “all countries should work together to find a way to bring an end to the war and a peace process”.
Under its “good relations with Russia, South Africa is preparing to co-operate with Moscow and Beijing in conducting a sea training. This exercise will take place next February. Although Brussels “respects the South African government's decision, I would prefer not to perform this exercise”, the EU's top foreign policy and security representative has indicated.
