The recognition of the state of Kosovo by the five European Union countries, which have not yet done so, remains an important issue for confirming Kosovo's citizenship.
Recently this has also been cited as the request of Kosovo Prime Minister Abin Kurti to become part of the European plan for normalisation of relations with Serbia.
In an interview for RTV Dukagjini, Germany's ambassador to Kosovo, Jorn Rohde, has said the EU cannot provide legal guarantees that such a thing will happen.
Thus, hinting that recognition by the five countries will not be part of the document for a final agreement between Kosovo and Serbia.
It is clear that you cannot seek legal guarantees that the EU cannot give, what is possible, and this is something given and in some way fully support independence. If this moves forward and I have seen the foundations and what is often cited in the media as being between the two Germans in 1972. At the time Germany was somehow like Serbia, we have threatened all those who have known this German by attracting recognitions. When this happened, the next day France, the United Kingdom, the United States, they all knew”, he said.
He has said his state is making the best possible for the five EU nations that have not recognised Kosovo to be convinced to do so.
He has confirmed that the EU's minister for dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, has met with representatives of five non-recognising countries to send this topic forward.
“It is not a major scientific achievement to guarantee the decisions of other countries, nor can the EU guarantee Germany's position, but it is clear that Germany and the five envoys who have come here are all supporters of Kosovo's independence and we are trying to do our best to convince those who have not known to move on the road. You have also seen Lajcak meet with representatives of five countries he has not recognised, and this is a concerted attempt to get this topic before”, he said.
Rohde has said Germany supports the EU proposal for normalisation of relations between Kosovo and Serbia.
