At the Kremlin's announcement, according to the BBC, Putin has ordered Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu to decide a ceasefire.

“Putin asked Shoigu to establish a ceasefire regime between the January 12th and January 6th by 24:00th on January 7th, along the entire line of parties in Ukraine”, the Kremlin's announcement is said.

On January 5th, Turkey's president, Recep Tayip Erdogan, urged Putin to temporarily stop the war.

One such request came from the Russian Orthodox Church.

Ukraine called it a trap and propaganda. Mykhailo Podoliak, adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky's office chief, stated that the Russian Orthodox Church is not an authority for global Orthodox “and acts only as a war propagandist”.

The war in Ukraine began February 24th, 2022. In recent months, when Russia failed to achieve the required goals, President Putin had voiced peace with Ukraine.
