“Being gay is not a crime”, Pope Francisescu said during an interview Tuesday for the Associated Press.
The Holy Father acknowledged that Catholic bishops in some parts of the world support laws that criminalize homosexuality or discriminate against the LGBTQ community.

According to The Human Dignity Trust, which works to end laws that discriminate against the LGBTQ community, about 67 countries or jurisdictions worldwide criminalise homosexuality, 11 of which may impose the death penalty.
