Berlin has received Warsaw's request, Blaszczak said in a Twitter post.
German has already received our request to allow the transfer of Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. I also call on the German side to join the coalition of countries supporting Ukraine with Leopard 2. This is our common cause because it's about the security of all of Europe”, Blaszczak wrote.
Ukraine has demanded that Western tanks help it evade against the Russian occupation.
Earlier in the day, Secretary General NATO Jens Stoltenberg has voiced confidence that the Alliance will find a quick solution for sending combat tanks to Ukraine.
At this key point in the war, we must offer the most serious and advanced systems in Ukraine, and we must do so faster”, Stoltenberg told reporters, standing by German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius on January 24th.
Pistorius said there is no rift among allies for sending heavy combat tanks to Ukraine, but said Chancellor Olaf Scholz was trying to create consensus on the issue.
Pistorius added that NATO should not become a party to the war in Ukraine.
He also said Germany is not preventing other countries from training Ukrainian troops to use Leopard tanks.
