The director of the Office for Kosovo in Serbia's Government, Petar Petkovovic, on January 27th, has said that the lack of invitation for Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, at the meeting for the Association of Serb majority municipalities “is the most clear message that no one understands those who violate and destroy agreements”.
Petkoviqi has reacted after Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti's statement, which in an interview for Radio Free Europe (REL), has said he has been invited to the meeting where the Association of Serb Major municipalities in Kosovo will be discussed.
The US Embassy in Pristina organises the meeting on 31 January.
I am not invited to that meeting, but those invited should go to that meeting and discuss it”, Kurti said.
Kosovo's prime minister stressed that the meeting is the result of the United States envoy's insistence on the Western Balkans, Gabriel Escobar, and that he has expected Escobar “states that, despite Serbia's president, Serbia should recognise Kosovo rather than in Pristina to say, regardless of Kosovo's prime minister, the association must become”.
“In his pathological hatred for any agreement and reconciliation reached with Belgrade, Albin Kurti began to settle accounts with the US envoy for the Western Balkans, due to his insistence on forming the Association of Serbian municipalities”, noted Office for Kosovo director at Serbia Government Petar Petjovic.
He also said that the Association of Serb majority municipalities is Pristina's “duty that has had to be fulfilled long ago” and that it is up to authorities in Pristina to first fulfil their part of obligations, for which Serbs have been waiting long for”.
Petkovic added that Kurti is obliged with Brussels' agreement to form association and that he cannot use the “agreement under his judgment, because signatures and obligations in the agreement owe all”.
In the interview for REL, Kurti has stressed that the Association of Serb majority municipalities is unethnic and that it “does not tolerate the Constitution of Kosovo”, as well as that it opposes its formation.
The issue of association was actualised with the international community's insistence that Kosovo and Serbia accept the European proposal for normalisation of relations, while Western countries' diplomatic activities intensified in Belgrade and Pristina.
As it has been said, the Association of Serb majority municipalities is not part of that proposal, but its formation is required under the Brussels Agreement.
Kosovo and Serbia have developed dialogue on normalising relations, with the European Union's mediation since 2011. Pristina insists on mutual recognition, meanwhile, Belgrade seeks a compromise solution, but does not specify what that compromise might be.
The authorities' official position in Serbia is that they do not accept Kosovo's independence.
