Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani, on the 24th anniversary of Recak's Masalka, has called for a struggle for memory against oblivion.
It says it must return to Recak and to any other country where Serb barbarity left its mark of horror, witnessing the truth because it alone helps build a peaceful future.
”Recak testified that Kosovo was also the challenge of confronting the democratic world with the dilemma: would a whole civilization be handed over to a barbarian, or would it act in defense of its own values, protecting a oppressed people who were threatened with extermination by a genocide regime?
So as a people who sacrificed everything for our freedom, we must today fight for memories against oblivion, always looking to the future.
Let's go back to Recak and any other country where Serb barbarity left traces of terror, let's say it's loud that crimes have occurred here against humanity, as Ambassador Walker said twenty-four years ago; let's witness the truth of Recak and all of Kosovo, because only truth helps build a peaceful future”.
