Mitrovica massacre survivor: Oliver Ivanovic was the commanding officer, Kurti made a mistake with his thanks.

It has been five years since Serbian politician Oliver Ivanovic was killed in northern Mitrovica. On the 5th anniversary of his assassination, the country's prime minister, Albin Kurti, reminded Ivanovic as “a person dedicated to fighting for the interests of the community and its town”. For Oliver Ivanovich, Kurti said he would like [...]

For Oliver Ivanoviqi, Kurti said he would like the memory to remain alive, like “one who worked for a stable future and for a very ethnic Kosovo”.

But Ivanovic was sentenced to nine years in prison in 2014 by a court of justice EULEX chief at the Constitutional Court in northern Mitrovica, after being convicted of war crimes committed in April 1999.

The main witness in Ivanovic's case was citizen of Mitrovica, Isa Mustafa. During his testimony, Mustafa had said he had seen Ivanoviqi give orders for the execution of several Albanian men.

While, with the prime minister's statement, Mustafa disagrees, as he told the online newspaper Reporter.net, there is court ruling about crimes he committed during and after the war.

“If it were a man's personal statement it would be something else, but it is the country's prime minister's statement and it is not a good statement because it is known what Oliver Ivanovi has done during and after the war in Mitrovica”, he said.

According to survivors of the massacre in the Kovacs' neighbourhood in Mitrovica, where 31 Albanian victims were executed by Serbian paramilitaries, Oliver Ivanovic was the commissioner for the crime that took place on April 14th 1999.

“The statement to protect it is also known to have a court ruling regarding the events of April 14, 1999, where Ivanovi was the commanding officer”, Mustafa told the online newspaper Reporter.net on Tuesday.

In a documentary by “Zona Express”, published in February 2016, Mustafa related the case when he saw Oliver Ivanoviqi give the order to execute Albanians in April 1999.

When we were sent there from our neighborhood, a masked man first came and asked in their language “chief, what to do with these people” and I actually identified him as Oliver that the majority were in disguise. For once, he said “what he asked me, act according to the orders given. From there it started, we got one at a time, and we started executing”, and Mustafa had testified in the documentary “

Good words of time for Oliver Ivanoviqi also had Rada Trajkovovic, today the minister's political adviser for Kthim and Community, Nenad Rassic.

She said Ivanovic “was the most tolerant man among us, ready for compromise and agreement with Albanians”.

Kosovo Serb politician Oliver Ivanovic was killed on January 16th 2018, near his party's office in northern Mitrovica.

For the murder of the leader of the group “Bridges”, the Constitutional Court in Pristina last week has approved the lawyer's proposal for hearing five witnesses.

In the case, the involvement in Ivanovic's murder is charged with Marko Rosic, Nedelky Spasojevicq, Dragisa Markovic, Zarko Jovanovic, Silvana Arsovic and Rade Basara.

On the other hand, on Monday, Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti, commemorating the murder of Oliver Ivanovic, among other Kosovo Serb politician convicted of war crimes in Mitrovica, described him as “openly, sincere, always sharp on issues of importance, but also respected by those with whom he did not agree”.
