Their point was the war in Ukraine and how both EU and Alliance member states must stay together against Russian aggression in Ukraine.
In his speech, Michel also cited the Western Balkans and reiterated the pledge to speed up the enlargement process, the newspaper Express reports.
We're getting stronger. We are accelerating the enlargement process with the Western Balkans and making the historic decision to grant candidate status to Ukraine and Moldova and the European perspective for Georgia”, he has said in the context.
He said Russia's fight against Ukraine has drawn the EU and NATO close.
Actually, we're closer today than ever. Both of our organizations have recently increased our ambition by improving our strategies for our future security. Our organisations are complementary, NATO remains the foundation of collective and essential protection for Euro-Atlantic security. And the EU is determined to contribute more effectively to global and transatlantic security”.
With today's statement, we want to move our co-operation to another level to ensure peace and stability. And to intensify our co-operation in new areas like protection of critical infrastructure, space, security implications of climate change, and manipulation and intervention of foreign information”.
