Prime Minister Albin Kurti said Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer pledged that relations between Kosovo and Austria will progress in the area of the economy as well.
The “was a very productive visit. It is my first official visit abroad this year, and with the highest honours and friendly warmth, Chancellor Nehammer pledged that relations between Kosovo and Austria will progress even in the field of economy, trade and culture. In Austria we can always count on having a partner and a friend even in terms of international organisations where its voice is very important, but also in terms of security and peace in Kosovo and in the Western Balkan region”, he said in RTK.
Kurti has also talked about Kosovo-Serbia dialogue and the possibility of dialogue with Serbian President Vuciq in Brussels.
We agreed on August 18th of last year in Brussels that we would meet each month. In September that did not happen, but came the Franco-German proposal, which we call the European Union proposal supported by France and Germany, and there was no meeting until November 21st”, he said.
Kurti said he believes he had to have more frequent meetings because the disagreement is big and trust is low, but I don't know exactly why this happened.
“However I have hope that this year there will be a greater commitment of the international community and specifically the European Union and the United States of America in order to become more pressure on Belgrade”, Kurti said.
Kosovo's prime minister has talked about investments from Austria to Kosovo.
The year that we left behind Kosovo exports has increased by 23 percent, while those towards Austria have increased by 28 percent. We are interested in exports continuing to increase, but on the other hand we are interested in as many Austrian investors as they come to Kosovo. I thanked Chancellor Nehammer for Austria's support even during the times of occupation. Let's not forget that three decades ago Austria was the first state to have accepted Pristina University diplomat”, Kurti said.
Kurti has said that Kosovo accounts for Austria even in terms of membership in the Council of Europe. “They have also welcomed our application for membership in the European Union. I also thanked them for Austrian soldiers serving at KFOR”.
