Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti believes Belgrade will delay the dialogue in hopes it will change the president to the White House.
This Kurti said at the Balkan peace conference invited by the Austrian Institute for European Policy and Security and the Vienna Diplomatic Academy.
The first “Oportunism is that: The outcome of the war should not be expected, we must help complete the war with Ukraine's victory. The second kind of opportunism is to expect new elections in the United States. I am fully convinced that Belgrade is expecting 2024 and will delay dialogue and agreements with Kosovo until in their hope the president will change to the White House. So, the dual expectation creates some false expectations in the West”, Kurti said, according to the official translation of Kosovo public television.
In fact, Kurt says the U.S.'s biggest commitment, The EU and NATO in the Western Balkans and especially with Belgrade is necessary.
“I am not convinced that Serbia is set before an election, the EU or Russian Federation, America or China. I fear the decision has been taken, but the democratic west does not want to see this. In this regard, there is a lot of relaxation in the Western world, because they believe Belgrade has not yet made the decision. This kind of opportunistic behavior gives rise to this false hope for the medium term, and here I believe that the greatest commitment of the United States, The EU and NATO in the Western Balkans, and especially Belgrade, are necessary”.
