Italy last week has joined efforts to find a Kosovo- Serbia is sending its prime minister's adviser, together with its colleagues in the region. In an interview with the media in Serbia, Italy's ambassador there, Luka Gori, estimates that association is one of the main elements of normalisation of relations. Speaking about the debate to be held at Serbia's Parliament, Gori has said that Rome appreciates Serbia's president's approach.
Italy's Ambassador to Serbia, Luka Gori, has declared that one of the main elements of normalisation of relations between Belgrade and Pristina is implementation of the Association Agreement and that it is important that this idea be implemented as soon as possible.
In that sense, he has said, the European proposal for normalisation of relations is also on the table, Gori says.
Gori, in an interview for Tanjug, has said that a debate will take place in Serbia on Kosovo's future “in the coming days.
We highly appreciate President Aleksandar Vuciq's approach. In the coming days, a debate will be held in Serbia about Kosovo's future. It is important that we all work together constructively, in order to stabilise relations between Serbia and Kosovo. Gori said.
Asked whether he would recommend Serbia to accept the proposal, Gori said it does not belong to him to make suggestions to authorities in Serbia, because “s know very well to protect Serbia's national interests”.
Speaking of EU enlargement, Gori said it is a key issue for Italy and recalled that the EU has recently begun negotiations with northern Macedonia and Albania and that Bosnia and Herzegovina has received candidate status.
The enlargement process is progressing in the Balkans, but unfortunately, this progress is slow. And I fully understand the frustration and public opinion about enlargement and understand that we need to expand faster to implement reforms and in line with circumstances I see progress in Serbia, especially when it comes to reform in justice”, Gori said.
According to him, Italy will remain a leader who will do its best to accelerate that process, find new energy and momentum in that process, which, he stressed, is crucial to the stability of the region and for the future of all.
Gori also said they are working to bring new investments to Serbia and that important meetings will be held in that sense in late March and May in the coming period.
The first “is the Italy-Serbia business forum to be held in Belgrade on March 21st, and in which we will focus on three sectors of energy and green transition, agriculture and agrotechnology and infrastructure. These are the three main sectors in which we want to invest, and through them we are further developing our partnership with Serbia. Another very important meeting will be held in May at the agricultural fair in Novi Sad, where Italy will be the fair's partner and then many companies will come to establish and develop economic relations with Serbia”, Gori said. /express/
