Auckland, New Zealand's largest city, has been badly hit by heavy rains and storms. Friday was the wetest day of the city in the record, with about 240mm of rainfall equal to the rain of an entire summer.
Airport authorities said terminals and roads were affected by widespread floods.
The rescue search teams said they had responded to more than 400 emergency calls made for the weather, CNN reports.
The rain has since been softened. But heavy rainfall, although not so extreme, is still expected in the coming days, meteorologists said.
A number of events in the city, including Elton John concerts, have been cancelled.
