Haxhiu: The challenge remains to eradicate patriarchism in relation to women

Justice Minister Albulen Haxhiu in interview RTK, stated that in terms of the law veto process, one of the achievements of this dictatorship for 2022 is reform in this system. She said self-preservation has also been the pledge given to Kosovo citizens, and all of this with the aim that [...]
She said vetoing has also been the pledge given to Kosovo citizens, and all of this with the aim of returning their trust in the institutions of justice.
“We have started working from March to 2021”, Haxhiu told RTK. “That was a very sensitive process, we wanted to consult even the Venice Commission”, she said.
After several months of efforts, at online and visiting meetings in Kosovo, in June of this year we have managed to get this Commission's opinion”.
She said that after meeting the Venice Commission's recommendations regarding this process, the report has been submitted to the Assembly.
In this interview, the Justice Minister said that one of the biggest challenges facing the dictatorship is the Kosovo Correcting Service, but also the Institute of Legal Medicine.
There are two institutions that, however, are very sensitive and as long as we have achieved reforms in the Kosovo Correcting Service, at the Institute of Legal Medicine is still a very difficult attempt to make reforms”.
She said this challenge is in the fact that officials who are employed there, not all but many of them, refuse reforms and constantly set obstacles in that direction.
But despite the obstacles, we will continue with the jobs we have started in this Institute, in terms of reforms and changes”.
As for the Correcting Service, the minister stated that when he accepted the task, he has found many problems.
“No executions by internal or external groups, and where they have also had impacts on transfers, releases, or other privileges for prisoners and everything else”.
Minister Haxhiu said that largely it has been achieved to cut ties with these interest groups and where they have been sent to disciplinary, but criminal, many Kosovo Correcting Service officials, to whom there has been information that they are involved in corrupts and have misused official office.
In this interview, Minister Haxhiu also spoke about domestic violence, namely, the numerous cases of murder of women in the country.
She claimed it is a challenge to fight domestic violence but also to the childicide (the murder of women and girls v.j), since despite efforts, there is still much work to do to change the patriarchal mentality.
This is in the sense that boys and men should view women and girls as equal to”, Minister Haxhiu said.
In addition to many other ways, Minister Haxhiu said that during 2023, the Ministry of Justice will co-operate closely with the Ministry of Education and Finance and Transfers.
“With the Ministry of Education to speak more in schools for women's freedom and rights, and with financial independence for these women and girls who are victims of violence”.
Haxhiu said it is self-aware that Kosovo society faces the patriarchal mentality. But it's much harder when institutions are driven by that mentality”.
In this interview, Minister Haxhiu also spoke of the record of recent war crimes in Kosovo, on the part of the Institute for Crime Documentation.
“Since it has passed the first-read bill, the working group is handling this bill and I believe it will soon be voted in the Assembly”, she said. “The reason we left it under the Prime Minister's Office is made for the attention this Institute must have:x3>.
Minister Haxhiu also spoke of “Rastin Dehari”, explaining there have been many obstacles to the investigation. Whatever is dependent on us as Justice Minister, we have addressed”, Haxhiu said.
