Germany will send 14 tanks to Ukraine initially.

Earlier it was reported that people in Ukraine are celebrating what appears to have German tanks approved to be sent to Ukraine, a former Ukrainian defence minister has told Sky News.

Alina Frolova, official from the Centre for Strategic Protection, made these comments prior to Germany's Chancellor Olaf Scholz's announcement, which is expected today afternoon to authorise the report of Leopard 2 tanks from other countries, writes Sky News.

She said Ukraine would likely require more tanks, but changing access to the West was a good sign.

There is still no official confirmation. However, according to many reports, the decision has been made and, of course, that everyone is happy in Ukraine. Many were celebrating yesterday, so this is a good sign”, she said.

The Ukrainian Army needs tanks to free its territory from Russian occupants such as Crimea and Donbas, she said. /Periscopi/
