Neither France nor the allies are fighting against Russia, the French Foreign Ministry said on January 26th.
This Paris stand comes after the West sent heavy tanks to Ukraine to help fight against the Russian occupation.
“We are not at war with Russia and there is none of our partners”, said French MPJ spokeswoman Anne-Claire Legendre.
“Sending military equipment... doesn't mean we're part of the fight”.
Legendre spoke after German Foreign Minister Annalena Bearbock said on January 26th that it is important that Western partners co-ordinate military assistance for Kiev.
The most important part is that we do this together and we in Europe do not blame each other because we are fighting against Russia rather than against each other”, she said.
A day earlier, Germany announced it would give Ukraine 14 Leopard 2 tanks that have been expected for a while. This Berlin decision also opens up the possibility that several other European states will supply Kiev with these types of tanks.
After Germany's announcement, the United States also announced they would grant Ukraine 31 Abrams tanks.
Kremlin said Moscow sees sending these tanks as “direct involvement in conflict” in Ukraine, which Russia started on February 24th 2022.
