On 29-30 March, or at the 17 April-20th session, the European Parliament is expected to vote for visa liberalisation for Kosovars. Through an e-mail response, this has been confirmed for Radio Kosovo by European Parliament spokesman Ojamo Janne.
The European Parliament's Committee for Civil Freedoms, Justice and Home Affairs on Thursday has voted for visa liberalisation for Kosovo.
This is the first vote in the round of voting expected to take place in the coming weeks, leading to the final decision on abolishing the visa regime for Kosovo citizens.
In the end, the interior ministers of EU member states must also vote when voting procedures are completed, and the decision is announced in the Official Journal.
Under the already agreed decision, Kosovo citizens will enjoy free visa movement, parallel to functioning of the European intelligence system E TIAS, in any case, will occur no later than on January 1, 2024.
Otherwise, visa liberalisation will enable Kosovo citizens to travel freely in what is known as the Schengen Zone, consisting of 26 European states. Kosovo is currently the only country in the Western Balkans whose citizens cannot freely move to this area.
