Randon, known as Sister Andree, was born in southern France on February 11, 1904, when World War I was still a decade away, writes The Guardian.
She died asleep in the elders' home in Toulon, spokesman David Tavella said on Tuesday.
There was great sadness, but... it was her wish to join her dear brother. For him, it's a release”, Tavella, from the home of the elderly Sainte-Catherine-Labouré, told AFP.
Sister Andree was long considered the oldest European before the death of Japanese Kane Tanaka at the age of 119 last year to leave that person with the longest life on Earth.
She worked as governor and teacher before entering a monastery in 1944 at the age of 40. She had been home to elders since 1979 and at the home of Toulon since 2009.
In 2021 it survived COVId-19 after the virus swept through the home of the elderly in which she lived, killing 10 people.
At that time, she told the Var-Matin newspaper: “I didn't even realize I had it”.
