With deep pain and grief, we announce the opinion that on January 17th, 2023, Eddy Shucriu, a known and precious name in the field of archaeology, history, literature, political, institutional and cultural engagements in Kosovo and throughout Albanian space.
Edi Shukriu was born in Prizren (1950). The primary and middle schools were conducted in the country's homeland, while archaeology studies at Belgrade University (1972). Magic at Belgrade University (1979) and doctored at Pristina University (1990). He worked in the Kosovo Museum (1974-1979) and from 1979 at the University of Pristina, legalising courses at the basic level at the History Branch for Archaeology and Ancient History. Found the Youth Archaeology Group “Chief Gechovi” of the University of Pristina (1986-1990), organised archaeological expeditions, initiated and founded the Anthropology Branch at the Faculty of Philosophy, with Guidances Anthropology Cultural and Archaeology, where he legalized certain subjects.
The scientific and professional activity focused on archaeological and ancient history research, on integrated protection of cultural heritage and the presentation of cultural heritage in the country and abroad, of its management and use for social and economic development. He directed archaeological research in Vermica (1974-1975), Gjonaj (1975), Porodymes' tumat, the Cernica tour of Ulpiana (1987) and the Komorani (1974), the Veles Fortress (1986), the Vlashnja Gradyza Gradus (2002) and the Ancient Ulpina, as first research with international co-operation under UP University's Veror courses (200610: Stratigraphic Method, Numismatics: Source & Heritage, Epigraphy Specks, funeral Archaeology, Archaeology and Urbanism. It was part of the research team at Prizren Fortress, Gladnica in Gracanica, Peja Bay, Roma and Upper Gadima. He identified fortified settlements in Strezovc, Marec, Gusic, Vucak, Godanco, Korisha, Batusha, Harilach, etc. He was one of the founders of the Archaeological Museum in Prizren (1973). Organised the students' study tour of history in Greece (1988).
During the years, dealt with the movement for freedom, the establishment of the state of Kosovo and the development of democratic processes, and also for women's participation in decision-making levels, public life and the life of gender equality. She acted at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (1991-1998) and was deputy of the Republic of Kosovo Assembly (1992-1998), co-director of the Department of Culture - U n NMIC (2000-2001) was Kosovo Assembly MP (2002-2004).
He co-founded the LDK Women's Forum (1990) and was its leader (1995-2000), then co-founded the Democratic Alternative Party of Kosovo (2004-13). She was the head of the Kosovo Council for Cultural Heritage (2009-2012), a member and then PEN's deputy head of the Kosovo Centre. He made study visits and legalized many universities in Italy, America, Austria, France, Britain, Belgium, Albania, Turkey, Croatia, Poland, Spain, and so on.
Edi Shukriu has a rich bibliography of monograph publications and studies from the fields of archaeology and history, then literary, poetry, prose and drama.
In 2012, she was elected a member of the Kosovo Academy of Sciences and Arts and in 2020 her regular member. By 2014 he is a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in Salzburg. For vital work in the field of cultural heritage was awarded the Dea Dardanicae Award of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports (2017), the Becir Musliu (2019), the Kosovo Writers' Association Award for Subheaven's Poetry Book (1990), the Award for the Science Book of Dardania Paraurbane by Dukajni (1996).
The burial of the deceased will take place on January 18, 2023, 1500, at the Catholic cemetery in Prizren City.
