The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, hailed the achievements, naming them extraordinary.
Speaking from the border checkpoint in the town of Bregana, accompanied by Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkov and Slovenian President von der Leyen said this is a holiday, not only for Croats but for all Europeans.
This is above all a day of joy and pride for the Croatian people. It is evidence of your extraordinary journey, your hard work, and your determination. It is a holiday not only for Croats, but for all European citizens. From this moment, international borders can be crossed freely without control of”, said Von der Leenen.
Nothing is the same after that” said Plenkovic, noting the comfort it will bring to Croats free movement and joining the European currency.
The European Commission president praised the work of the Croatian people and singled out Plenkovic for the reforms needed for the quick union in the European Union currency club.
She said the euro “brings stability and macroeconomic credibility” inside and abroad.
