Parliament Speaker Roberta Metsola undertook an urgent procedure to remove the two lawmakers' legal protection, following a request by Belgian judicial authorities.
The scandal was discovered in December, with the arrest of Greek Euro-Deputate Eva Kaili, who is accused of accepting large sums of money to lobby in favor of Qatar and Morocco in the European Parliament.
Authorities have discovered that other politicians are involved in corruption scheme and investigations into the issue continue.
“Since the first moment, the European Parliament has done everything in its power to assist investigations and will continue to ensure that there is no impunity”, Metsola said.
She stressed that, responsible persons will soon realise that Parliament is on the side of the law.
On Monday, Metsola also indicated that he has asked all offices and commissions to turn the process of lifting immunity to priority in order for it to be completed within February 13th.
