It has been more than ten days since Kosovo police opened competitions for the admission of new officials from non-partisan communities to fill the empty seats that are in the Mitrovica Regional Directorate North.

This, following the massive resignations of hundreds of Serbian police officials who fled Kosovo Police in November last year, as a sign of dissatisfaction with a Kosovo government decision concerning license plates. But is the number of people who have applied in this competition known so far?

From the Kosovo government it was said that through this competition no Serb is intended to be expelled who wants to be part of the Kosovo Police. According to the Government, all that is needed for this competition is simply meeting the pre-price criteria.

But in competition one of the criteria is for candidates not to be over 30.

“Call is open to all who meet the criteria. In principle, we do not want to exclude anyone and we do not intend to replace Serbs with Albanians because we want Serbs to be represented in our multiethnic institutions”, the Kosovo government said in an answer sent to Radio Free Europe.

But Kosovo police are not giving details about the competition's performance.

In the KP's response to Nacional, the same have submitted the license to open the application, ignoring the question of the number of applicants.

“Sic you are informed of the competition has opened, including with the criteria set forth, while in terms of the process/estomising issues about the competition in question, you will be informed in time according to the planning/phase that is envisioned. ”

And Kosovo justice authorities opened the competition after about 550 members of the Serb community left Kosovo Police in four municipalities north of the state November 2022.

They were among the justice system workers, local and central institutions and others, who resigned to disillusionment with a decision by the Government of Kosovo, which called on Serbs to reregister Kosovo's license plates, and to remove those issued by Serbia.

Who can apply?

The competition is open. Kosovo police official can become all those who meet the conditions set by Kosovo institutions.

One of the conditions, however, is for candidates not to be over 30.

Members of the Serb community in the north have integrated into the Kosovo Police under the 2013 Brussels Agreement between Kosovo and Serbia, and most of them are already over 30.

Former Kosovo Police Director and current Democratic Party of Kosovo deputy Rashit Qalaj has said he believes there will be no large number of applicants for the KK cat competition in northern Mitrovica, and the same has shown that the reason may be pressure, blackmail and threats from Serbia.

“You know there is a huge pressure developing on the local community from Serbia's structures. And I think that's one of the reasons why the Kosovo Police have not revealed the number of applicants, even though I think that's wrong. At any moment at any time, regardless of circumstances the public has the right to know, even in this case, the number of applicants in this” contest, Qalaj told Nacionalen.

He has explained why he expects there to be a small number of applicants for the competition.

So far, three or four people have physically received apps, but applicants are able to apply electronically. As it may be, I do not expect large numbers of applicants, where I am still repeating them because of the pressure, blackmail, threats Serbia is making with its instruments in the northern part of the country. ”

Security Affairs Knower Drizan Shala has said the number is not made public because of not giving inflation to Serbia's security structures to create pressure and blackmail/threat against them.

“Now in the northern part, we lack the police officials of that community, and in this process the Government of Kosovo must have a strategy of co-operation rather than the difference that has occurred as the consequence of Serbia's political games and the failure of governing Kosovo to enable a preventative move towards this Vuciqi policy. The number does not become public because of not providing information to Serbia's security facilities to create pressure and blackmail/threat against them. ” ] Shala said.

We remember that since the resignation of Serbian police officials in the four municipalities in northern Mitrovica, Leposaviq, Zvecan and Zubin Potok police have reportedly sent rule officials from other regions there.
