U.S. Justice Department investigators ( The DoJ has discovered six other documents classified during a 13-hour search at the home of President Joe Biden in Delaware, the BBC reports. Several classified documents on Wilmington property on Friday were from his time as senator and others from his position as vice president under Barack Obama.
Lawyer Bob Bauer said the personally handwritten notes and surrounding materials were also taken. The president offered access to his house “to allow the DD to conduct a search of all facilities for possible vice presidents' data and possible classified material”, Bauer said in a statement Saturday.
Earlier this month, US presidential lawyers said the first group of classified documents was found on November 2nd at the Penn Biden Centre, a research institute the president founded in Washington DC. A second group of records was found on December 20th in the garage at his house in Wilmington, while another document was found in a home storage space on January 12th.
After finding the documents, the president said his team immediately handed over to the National Archives and Justice Department. It's not clear why Biden had kept them. According to the Presidential Registers Act, White House data is supposed to go to the National Archives once an administration is completed, where they can be safely preserved.
Special Adviser Robert Hur is scheduled to lead the investigation into how sensitive documents have been handled.
