Cholls: I didn't come to Pristina, Belgrade for ultimatum, but to push forward dialogue

U.S. State Department senior adviser Derek Chollet has stated that over the past two days, he did not visit Kosovo and Serbia to provide any ultimatum, but to express his strong support for the EU-mediated dialogue and explore ways the dialogue can progress. “We believe [...]
“We believe that dialogue with EU mediation is the best way to improve the European future of Kosovo and Serbia, and we welcome both sides to put the interests of citizens first when they make decisions and improve the everyday lives of citizens. I know decisions will be difficult, but the US is here to encourage leaders to take those critical steps, as we have been there in the past. This is one of the reasons we wanted to get back here”, Chollet said.
Chollet, at a media conference from Belgrade, said he is personally ready for discussions on how to go about everything in a positive direction in terms of Kosovo's (Serbia) dialogue.
“We are working in close partnership with our colleagues in the EU. My colleague Escobar was in Brussels early in the week to discuss this. I will be able to hold discussions on how to direct everything in a positive direction and we will work on it in the coming days”, Chollt said as he was asked whether he thinks the EU is strong enough to mediate in dialogue and what is the role of the US in this process.
In addition, Chollet said they strongly support the European Union's plan backed by France and Germany.
Europe's “Proposal is a good basis for discussion, we want to initiate that discussion and hope it will take place in the coming days. We believe that progress in normalising relations is very important. Stability, above all now because of the Russian aggression. We discussed the details of the proposal and this is something we strongly welcome”, he said.
