US State Department adviser Derek Chollet has said that the Association of Serb majority municipalities in Kosovo will not be a mechanism that will resemble Republika Srpska in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Speaking to an interview for N1 television in Belgrade, Chollet has said it is important to form association by respecting the Kosovo Constitution.
“I have to be clear, this is not an agreement that will be compared to Republika Srpska”, Chollet said, broadcast Express.
As the medium writes, he did not want to talk about the legal characteristics of Association, saying that details should be set aside “
Asked about Serbian President Aleksandar Vuciq's statements that the Franco-German plan includes recognising Kosovo's independence, Chollet has said the US supports normalisation towards mutual recognition.
“The US supports the EU-mediated dialogue and its goal is normalisation in terms of mutual recognition”, the diplomat has declared, adding that the European proposal is a basis of negotiation and as such is flexible.
Meanwhile, as far as possible Kosovo's membership in the United Nations is concerned, he has said it is a difficult thing to consider Russian and Chinese objections, but has said the US will continue to arrive.
Serbian efforts to attract Kosovo recognitions have called them a waste of time.
“Efforts to attract Kosovo's recognition to the international community are a waste of time and energy”, Chollet has said.
Chollet has expressed concern over Russian influence in the Balkans. He has declared that Russia has witnessed willingness to use energy resources to exercise negative influence.
