Peach, during an official visit to Kosovo on Thursday, has met with the heads of the country's institutions -- Vjosa Osmani -- and Prime Minister Albin Kurti.
The British emissary has welcomed efforts to ease tensions in northern Kosovo, and has encouraged the reintegration of Kosovo Serbs to Kosovo institutions, the United Kingdom Embassy in Pristina has announced.
It is important that all involved stop the cycle of crisis and dangerous rhetoric, and work for a comprehensive normalisation agreement”, the British Embassy reported.
Peach has been announced by President Osmani regarding recent developments in Kosovo, while she has stressed the dedication and commitment of the country's institutions for peace and security, the Kosovo Presidency has announced.
Also, it has been said that Kosovo continues to be co-ordinated with international partners for addressing security challenges, and in this context, President Osmani has demanded the largest “involvement of Great Britain as a key NATO member and a historic Kosovo partner”.
“President Osmani has stressed that Kosovo is the ongoing constructive party in relation to dialogue with Serbia, but that the Serb side through efforts to destabilise Kosovo tries to shift the focus from the dialogue”, the Kosovo President's Office announced.
In that spirit, as stated in the statement, President Osmani has demanded that <x0 against Serbia's destabilising tendencies, the international community maintain a unique attitude by condemning such actions and not making the equality of the parties when it is clearly known who is aggressor”.
Meanwhile, in a statement by the Kosovo Prime Minister's Office, it is said that during the meeting with Stuart Peach, Prime Minister Kurti emphasised excellent bilateral relations and the importance of supporting the United Kingdom for the Republic of Kosovo, especially in the area of security.
The “also discussed the challenges facing the Western Balkans region, the risk posed for Russian security and progress, and the important role of NATO in preventing and backing Moscow's goals for our region”, the report said.
Prime Minister Kurti said that Kosovo's “has democratic, legal, economic and social progress, which must be protected, along with partners and allies”.
Stuart Peach has been appointed special envoy of the United Kingdom for the Western Balkans in December 2021.
At the time, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Peach's appointment is part of the UK's continued commitment to stability and peace in the Western Balkan region.
