“Today I am announcing that the United States will send 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine, the equivalent of a Ukrainian battalion,” said Biden at the White House in the presence of Pentagon chief Lloyd Austin and US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
He noted that Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin had recommended this step.
“Tanket Abrams are the most skilled tanks in the world and are also extremely complex to operate and maintain. So we are also giving Ukraine the necessary parts and equipment to effectively keep these tanks on the battlefield”, Biden added.
He also noted that the United States will begin training the Ukrainian Army to operate American tanks.
As reported, the decision to equip Ukraine with Leopard 2 tanks has been adopted at the gathering of the German government.
