Berat visited about 400,000 tourists during 2022houses

Berat Mayor Ervin Demo told ATSH that during 2022 Berat has marked a high influx of tourists, where an estimated 400,000 visitors visited in January-December.

According to him, 80% of tourists are foreigners.

This is the highest number of visitors in our city's history. In recent years tourists are spending more time in the city. Earlier, tourists paid daily visits, while now they stay at least 1-2 nights in the city and are able to get better acquainted with the history and culture of this ancient city”, Demo said.

Among the most visited attractions Demo mentions Calana, while in the city the most visited are the Canons of Osum, the city cantinas, the Onufri, the Ethnographic Museum, and Solomon.

“A special attention also takes on cult objects, such as churches and mosques, which have been restored” in recent years, Demo said.

According to him, numerous activities organised by the municipality have also affected the influx of visitors this year.

“Bashkia throughout the year, but especially in the summer season, it has organised a series of activities each weekend as puppet theatres, theatres to raise, weekends of live in pedonal music, friendship parties, exhibitions, etc., which have brought a high number of tourists to the city of one over a” window, Demo said.

As far as investments in the tourism sector are concerned, Demo says “180 new businesses have been opened mainly in the city's main tourist neighbourhood”.

A total of about 486 cultural monuments are counted throughout Berat's district, and this has an extraordinary impact, especially on increasing the flow of cultural tourism, especially in recent years.

The fortress of Berat is one of the largest historical monuments in the Balkans, a large fortress ruling over the Osum River. The castle is raised according to a triangular plan. This fortress, viewed from below, looks like part of the hill.

The inner entrance tower is made of stone blocks belonging to Illyrian fortifications that were built in the IV-II centuries BC. The hilltop is surrounded by an outer outer wall with 24 towers. Within this fortress are about 14 churches, which have made it quite familiar.
